Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas is holiday favorite amongst Disney fans. Released in 1993, the film made a modest $75 million at the box office. Now, after 25 years, we may get a chance to visit this tale again.
According to MovieHole, they have a reliable that is stating there are talks at Disney on a possible sequel or follow-up to the classic film, and that the studio is considering all options. As of now, this is considered strictly a rumor, as no one from the studio has officially commented.
We’re not entirely sure how a live-action film for this particular movie would actually work though. Maybe Disney would take more of the CGI route like it has for their past projects like The Jungle Book, and the upcoming Dumbo and The Lion King.
That said we’ve always heard the Tim Burton and the film’s director Henry Selick, never liked the idea of a 2D or live-action sequel and would want to return to stop-motion animation if given the chance.
The film has since become a pop culture phenomenon with Disney celebrating the film with several re-releases, a massive array of products, and even a dark ride at Disney Land (every year, they redress Haunted Mansion with that of characters and scenes from the film). It’s actually kind of surprising that a sequel has yet to come into fruition.
Released just days before Halloween in 1993, The Nightmare Before Christmas tells the story of the misadventures of Jack Skellington, Halloweentown’s beloved pumpkin king, who has become bored with the same annual routine of frightening people in the “real world.” When Jack accidentally stumbles on Christmastown, all bright colors and warm spirits, he gets a new lease on life — he plots to bring Christmas under his control by kidnapping Santa Claus and taking over the role. But Jack soon discovers even the best-laid plans of mice and skeleton men can go seriously awry.
