Earlier this month, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that it would be awarding two additional trophies this year: one for the “fan favorite” film of the last year and another for the “movie scene that made [you] cheer loudest” from any year. Unlike the 23 other awards being presented during this year’s ceremony, the Academy’s members would have much less say for these two new awards.
Instead, Twitter users would decide by tweeting it out their personal choices alongside the hashtags #OscarsFanFavorite and #OscarsCheerMoment.
While the competition is still happening, the film community received an exciting update about the Oscars Fan Favorite category this week. On Monday, the Academy announced its ten finalists for the award. Of all ten, sadly Spider-Man: No Way Home turned out to be the only Disney-adjacent film on the list – keep in mind it’s a co-production of Sony.
You can view the full list below.
Now, while it is unfortunate that films such as Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings or Encanto didn’t quite make the cut, it shows that the company still has at least one horse in the race.
If you haven’t voted yet, or you would like to make your voice heard again in this latest round of voting, be sure to tweet your favorite film from the top ten finalists alongside #OscarsFanFavorite. Fans can also vote and OscarsFanFavorite.com. Voting closes Thursday, March 3rd.
Stay tuned to see who wins during the 94th annual Academy Awards, which will broadcasted live on Disney’s ABC network March 27, 2022.
