The hype around the new show continues building toward May 27, even as other galactic news hits feeds….

Star Wars news always hits at lightspeed from around the franchise, but no matter the content, the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi show remains the focus of many in the fandom.

Of course, the Kenobi series is “in the can” until May 27, when it debuts with two episodes on Disney+ (positioned against the premiere of Stranger Things 4 on Netflix). However, with Ewan McGregor’s highly-anticipated return to the iconic role, millions of people around the globe will watch that Friday and each subsequent Wednesday.

Empire in Ascendancy

Recently, writer Joby Harold spoke to EW.com. While the extended plot of the new streaming show remains vague, savvy Star Wars watchers now know quite a bit about the upcoming limited series:

It takes place ten years after the Revenge of the Sith, in a time of darkness in the galaxy…The Empire is in ascendancy. And all the horrors that come with the Empire are being made manifest throughout the galaxy. And the Jedi Order as we know them are being all but wiped out. So everything that was in the prequels has crumbled.

Additionally, with Kenobi in self-imposed exile on Tatooine, the Jedi Master keeps watching over Luke Skywalker as he promised Yoda in Star Wars III. Presumably, the series will also fill us in on Obi-Wan’s relationship with the Lars family and how the legendary Jedi deals with his guilt over not being able to save Anakin from the dark side.

Of course, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy teased a Vader vs. Kenobi rematch early, a dule billed as the “rematch of the century.”

However, despite the desired matchup between learner and master, the show seems to have a cerebral bent.

“Obi-Wan is defined by his past to a pretty great degree,” explained Harold to EW. “Obi-Wan and Anakin share so much screen time together. They’re so close that everything that he’s experienced and everything that happened with Anakin cannot help but define him.

“And we meet a man who’s very much defined by that history, whether he wants to be or not,” added the writer.

Now we’ll know what Obi-Wan was thinking when Luke asked him what happened to his father.

StarWars.com reminds us the series also marks the return of Hayden Christensen in the role of Vader. Joining the cast are Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.

Meanwhile, Disney+ has the entire Saga ready for fans to catch up or review their lore before the debut. So, if you’re looking for your fix of a galaxy far, far away, you won’t have to wait long – even if May 27 seems far, far away.

Familiar Faces Return to Star Wars Celebration

The list continues to scroll like the original Star Wars crawl. And while much of the Star Wars world remains focused on Tatooine, a decent contingent of fans will descend upon Anaheim from May 26 to 29.

Also on StarWars.com, fans learned about the new focus of the Saga’s literary canon – “The High Republic: Phase II.”

“There’s a brand-new episode of Star Wars: The High Republic Show out,” explained the outlet. “This month host Krystina Arielle revealed cover art from Phase II of the initiative.”
