Fulfilled by his once and again role as the Jedi Master, the renowned actor would like to return again

In a time when other actors talk about reprising Star Wars roles if they “need another house or something…” it’s nice to see a high profile thespian like Ewan McGregor politicking for another shot at their character.

Our once and future Obi-Wan Kenobi, McGregor, told Total Film/Games Radar, “If we were to get an opportunity to do it again, I’d be totally up for that.”

Ewan, who for years looked to Lucasfilm to reprise his role as Luke Skywalker’s first Jedi Master, finds himself back in lobbying mode.

Looking to Return, Again

“It was nice to come back and to bridge that gap between me and Alec Guinness. I got as much, or more, out of playing him this time than I did in the first three movies put together,” said McGregor to Jack Shepherd. “That’s to do with the writing, and the people we were making the series with, and the technology, and how different everything is.”

But one thing remains the same, his desire to don the robes.

“Here I go again,” he joked to Total Film. “It’s like me knocking at Disney’s door again!”

Meanwhile, McGregor also lets fans know about his first face-to-face meeting with Darth Vader in the mask.

When Obi Met Darth

“I had rehearsed the scene with Vader, but not with the helmet on or anything like that,” he told Shepherd in another exclusive for GamesRadar.com. “When we came to do the scene, when they shouted ‘action,’ he had to come from behind me.

“I turned around, and [expletive] Darth Vader was coming at me. It was like I was six again. I’d never acted into Vader’s helmet. I’d never looked him in the eye.

“It scared the [expletive] out of me,” he added.

McGregor said that the only armor-clad adversaries he encountered in his previous Star Wars work were CGI.

Childhood Memories

“The same thing would happen with the Stormtroopers,” continued Ewan. “I’d worked with Clone troopers before, but so many of them were CGI.

“I never worked with Stormtroopers, and, again, I was like seven years old again. Because when you’re actually faced with a Stormtrooper, with a blaster, it’s like: ‘[expletive] hell.’”

But while McGregor found the moments humorous, the emotion “in scene” was palpable.

“It’s like actual childhood memories of being scared,” he told Shepherd. “That’s how deeply it’s in us.

“I’ve acted for 30 years, and I’ve never been genuinely frightened when I’m acting frightened.

“But I had moments on this that were genuinely quite scary,” he said, adding, “It’s so funny.”
