Once it was announced that Sigourney Weaver would have a role in ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’. Many people were curious how she would be included in the film since her character died in the first film.
But earlier today, Director James Cameron revealed exclusively to Empire her role and it’s not at all what people probably expected. Weaver will actually be playing a character called Kiri, a Na’vi who is the adoptive teenage daughter of Jake Sully and Neytiri.
When talking about the performance Cameron acknowledged the challenge of it saying “We’re gonna have a 60-something actor playing a character [decades younger than] her actual biological age. Sig thought it was all kinds of fun.”
The reveal actually brings up more questions than answers. Does this new character have a connection to Weaver’s previous one? What led to Jake and Neytiri adopting her? Will have to wait for the film’s release later this year to find out.
