Rick Riordan Praises Disney’s ‘Percy Jackson’ First Month Of Production, Hints At Future Seasons

Disney’s live action Percy Jackson adaptation has only been shooting for one month, but series creator Rick Riordan is already convinced of its greatness. Granted, he is a bit biased, but even when you read his latest blog post, it’s hard not to share in his excitement.

At the end of the series’ fourth week of filming Riordan not only confirmed the production’s partnership with George Lucas’ Industrial Light and Magic and the use of the same technology that brings The Mandalorian to life. He also expressed his admiration of the cast’s performances, “even before editing, soundtracks or special effects.”

“We are receiving ‘dailies’ of the scenes recorded each day, and they look . . . dare I say, divine,” he wrote. “This cast is electrifying. They own their characters and turn their lines into magic on screen.”

Of everything Riordan wrote in his post, the last line seemed to be the most significant: “We still have a long way to go before this first season is completed, but I think you will be pleased when we finally get to share it with you!”

Fans of the character know that there are 5 main books in Riordan’s series. While Riordan was brought on board to help shape the project and create a “bible” for future potential seasons, the way he references the production as season one is quite telling.

Could Disney be just as pleased as Riordan with what they’ve seen so far? Could they have already green-lit another season or seasons? With D23 right around the corner, we might have an answer sooner rather than later…

The live-action show tells the fantastical tale of the titular 12-year-old modern demigod (Walker Scobell), who’s just coming to terms with his newfound supernatural powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. With help from his friends Grover and Annabeth, Percy must embark on an adventure of a lifetime to find it and restore order to Olympus. Grover is a satyr, half boy and half goat, disguised as a 12-year-old boy, and is the best friend of Percy. Annabeth is the true daughter of the Greek goddess, Athena.

Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri, Jason Mantzoukas (Big Mouth), Megan Mullally (Will & Grace), Virginia Kull (The Big Bend), Glynn Turman (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), and Timm Sharp (Blunt Talk) co-star.
