Sony’s ‘Madame Web’ Adds Zosia Mamet

Yet another actor has been caught in the literal web of Sony’s next Spider-Verse fillm.

According to Deadline, former Girls star Zosia Mamet is the latest actress to join Madame Web. While it’s unclear what role she will have, she will star alongside Emma Roberts, Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Adam Scott, and Dakota Johnson who will play the titular character.

S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones) will direct the film, while Morbius scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, and Kerem Sanga (Dinner in America) contributed to the screenplay.

For those unfamiliar with Madame Web, she is depicted as an elderly woman with myasthenia gravis and thus was connected to a life-support system that looked like a spider web. Due to her age and medical condition, Madame Web never actively fought any villains. For that reason, sources have stressed it’s possible the project could turn into something else. Insiders close to Deadline claim that Sony wants this character to be their own version of Doctor Strange, due to the character’s sensory powers.

Filming began earlier this month, and is expected to continue through September in Boston. The film just recently got pushed back to October 6, 2023. It appears the studio is hoping to bank of the success of the Venom films that also had moderate box office success after their October releases.

The next Spider-Verse film being served by Sony is Kraven the Hunter, which hits theaters this January.
