Joy Bryant Joins Disney+’s ‘Spiderwick Chronicles’ Series
Disney+ is expected to begin production on the Spiderwick Chronicles series in the coming weeks, and the studio is nailing down its stars.
According to Variety, Joy Bryant (Ballers) has joined the cast in a supporting role. She joins the previously announced Christian Slater, Lyon Daniels and Noah Cottrell. The series is based on the popular book series of the same name by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black.
The Spiderwick Chronicles follows the adventures of the Grace children, twins Simon and Jared and their older sister Mallory, after they move into the Spiderwick Estate and discover a world of fairies that they never knew existed. Daniels and Cottrell will play Simon and Jared, while Slater is set to play the villain Mulgarath (alter ego Dr. Dorian Brauer).
Bryant has been cast as Helen Grace. Helen is described as smart, loving, and strong. In the wake of her divorce, Helen uproots her family from their home in Brooklyn to her grandfather Arthur Spiderwick’s estate in Michigan. A mother of three teenagers, she is doing everything she can to provide for her family while also trying to help her son Jared resolve his mental health issues.
She-Hulk director, Kat Coiro is set to direct the series’ first two episodes. She will also executive produce the series. Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi, who wrote and illustrated the books together, will also serve as executive producers of the series. Paramount Television Studios and 20th Television are producing the series. Aron Eli Coleite (Locke & Key) is the showrunner. Casting is currently underway.
