Earlier this year, we reported on Disney’s numerous Emmy nominations across all of its television and streaming platforms. While the televised ceremony isn’t until next week, several of the awards were given out this past weekend at a smaller ceremony dubbed the Creative Arts Emmy awards.
Traditionally, the two-day long ceremony honors the best in artistic and technical achievement in television and streaming. This is where some of the smaller – but equally important – categories such as production design and casting get the spotlight.
At this weekend’s spotlight, several of Disney’s productions scored big. For starters, freshman series Abbott Elementary began what we predict to be its Emmy sweep by winning the Emmy Award for Best Casting in a Comedy Series.
Additionally, the Disney+ original film Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers won for Outstanding Television Movie, prompting fans to wonder how far it might have gone if it were released theatrically…
The most touching win of the weekend went to the late Chadwick Boseman, who won an Emmy for his contribution to Marvel’s What If…?. The series was the last time he both technically acted in a project and played the iconic Wakandan king T’Challa a.k.a Black Panther. His wife, accepted the award on his behalf.
