New York Comic Con 2022 has sadly come to an end, and Marvel Comics did not disappoint. With announcements, special panels, and a look to the future, comic book fans must be in a happy place right now. So, let’s take a look at the news from NYCC over the last few days.
Captain America’s Next Steps
Captain America: Cold War is one of the most anticipated crossovers in the Marvel Universe. This info came during a special recording of This Week In Marvel. Podcast hosts Ryan Penagos and Lorraine Cink were joined by the current writers of both Cap comics, Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing and Tochi Onyebuchi. They were also joined by Marvel Comics Editor Alanna Smith.
Captain America: Symbol of Truth saw the mysterious return of Ian Rogers as Nomad, but what are his intentions? And what will this mean for Sam Wilson and the escalating conflict in Wakanda? And the end of Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #5 showed us the lengths Bucky Barnes will go to, to stop the Outer Circle.
Coming next from our star-spangled team, we have a special one-shot Captain America and The Winter Soldier. This will debut the Winter Soldier’s new costume and show us Becky’s new persona for the upcoming war. We got a little sneak peek at the one shot, with variant covers for the special by Carnero and Alex Maleev. And then we have the main event.
Captain America: Cold War hits our shelves in April 2023. And it will be an event Cap fans don’t want to miss. This will be the climax of all of the threats and mysteries that Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson have faced in their respective series. We’ll also learn more about the origin of Steve’s shield, finally see the Outer Circle, and more. This story will have a lasting impact on Captain America’s 80-year legacy, and one you won’t want to miss.
NYCC gave us a little look at the future, with new promotional artwork by Daniel Acuña. Check it out, and keep an eye out for more updates on Captain America: Cold War as they’re released.
Mysterious Beginnings
Some mysteries are better left unsolved. However, we want some of them solved right now! And this is the case for a super secret series that will be coming to us next year. While we don’t have much information about Jonathan Hickman and Valerio Schiti’s new series, they revealed some new character designs during the panel. This, along with the tagline, gives us something to think about. There’ll be more information before its 2023 release, so keep an eye out for updates!
New Worlds & New Voices
At the Marvel’s Voices: The World Outside Your Window panel on Saturday, we had a few new titles and one-shots announced. These titles will be released in time to celebrate Black History month, and showcase both Black heroes and Black creators. There are so many titles to look forward to, and it’s hard to decide which one we’re most excited about.
Marvel’s Voices: Wakanda Forever
A special one-shot that will contain stories by some of our favourite creators, as well as new Marvel talent. The one-shot will give us more stories of some of our favourite characters. Black Panther, Shuri, Okoye and more will go on new adventures, and the creators will further grow the world of Wakanda. Marvel’s Voices: Wakanda Forever is set to be released in February next year.
Bloodline: Daughter of Blade
Earlier this year, we were introduced to Brielle Brooks. She’s a good kid who’s having some problems at school. And all because she’s developing vampiric superpowers, and making some undead enemies. To top it all off, Bri has some hard truths to come to terms with; that she’s the daughter of the infamous Daywalking vampire hunter, Blade! Created by writer Danny Lore and artist Karen S. Darboe. This is a character that we’ve been waiting for for quite some time, and we’re sure it will be a hit!
Silver Surfer: Ghost Light
Another new character who will start their own limited series, brought to you by John Jennings and Valentine De Landro. After Toni Brooks and her family move into the quiet town of Sweetwater, things aren’t quite as they seem. Toni and her family start to unravel a mystery that calls upon the Silver Surfer himself. It will also introduce us to a new character, 54 years in the making. But who is Ghost light? A special look at a character sketch gives us some answers, but there are still a lot we don’t know.
Bishop: War College
Brace yourselves for an all-out brawl that could bring the fate of Krakoa into question. TV writer J. Holtham and artist Sean Damien Hill will see Lucas Bishop take control of a new group of X-Men. While Krakoa is a vulnerable island paradise, Bishop and his students will do what they can to save all Mutantkind. Armor, Surge, Cam Long, Aura Charles and Amass will join Bishop in facing the threat. Find out more about Bishop’s visions for the X-Men team in this limited series next year.
Sinister Stars & Family Reunions
Saturday also saw a special panel called The Next Big Thing that introduced us to some of the biggest events in the Marvel Universe. We finally have some answers to things that have been hinted at throughout the year.
Sins of Sinister
This X-Men epic event starts in January. A giant-sized one-shot by Kieron Gillen and Lucas Werneck will kick things off and start the downfall of Krakoa as we know it. As this new Krakoa starts, be sure to check out the limited series tie-ins that will give you more of the story.
Immoral X-Men, Storm & The Brotherhood of Mutants and Nightcrawlers will tackle the dark future of the Marvel universe, taking us 10 years, 100 years, and 1000 years to the future. Writers Kieron Gillen, Al Ewing and Si Spurrier will take on these limited series. And artists Paco Medina, Patch Zircher and Alessandro Vitti will draw one issue of each story. This will all come to a head in the one-shot finale, Sins of Sinister: Dominion.

Guardians of the Galaxy
While very little has been announced for this title, we were given a quick look at the Spring of 2023, when the Guardians of the Galaxy will return to rebuild their family. The series is set for release next year, and we’re sure there’ll be a lot more information in the coming months.
There Goes My Shero
On the final day of NYCC, The Women of Marvel panel gave us the last of our comic book announcements of the weekend. First, we got the exciting news that a new season of the Women of Marvel podcast will kick off on 3rd November, with the season theme being “The Super Power of Mentorship”. After this, we had some pretty exciting comic book news!
The Women of Marvel anthology one-shot will return next year in March. Last year’s issue was a great success, and a brilliant way to showcase not only our female characters but the female creators behind them.
We’ll also be getting a Rogue & Gambit limited series that kicks off in March next year, written by Stephanie Phillips with art by Carlos Gomez. Alongside this, a 5-issue limited series X-23: Deadly Regenesis will start in March. This series will be written by Erica Schultz with art by Edgar Salazar. To top it all off, our favourite British mutant will be back on the page with Betsy Braddock: Captain Britain #1. The series will be written by Toni Howard and is being released in February 2023.

A Sign of Things to Come
NYCC 2022 is now over, but it left us with so much. With lots of announcements for comic books, TV shows, and films, we’ve been given enough to keep us going for a little while. While there’s still a lot that we don’t know, the small tastes we’ve been given have definitely piqued our interest!
