A few back’s The Ankler’s Jeff Sneider shared the news that Harrison Ford had been offered the role of Thunderbolt Ross, and last week he would go on to share that he had in fact signed on. Well today, the news is official.
Deadline is now reporting that Ford’s deal is done and he will make his MCU debut in Captain America: New World Order opposite star Anthony Mackie. Ford will also reprise his role for Thunderbolts. Both movies are set for 2024. Ford will take over the Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross role, played by William Hurt, who tragically passed away earlier this year from prostate cancer.
Plot details for Captain America: New World Order are being kept under wraps. Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Tim Blake Nelson, and Carl Lumbly are also set to star.
Julius Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox, Luce) is set to direct the fourth installment of the franchise. Malcolm Spellman, who was the head writer and showrunner for the hit series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, will be coming back to write the fourth installment of the Captain America franchise. Dalan Musson, a staff writer, will co-write the film with Spellman.
As for Thunderbolts, production will begin next year with director Jake Schreier. Julia Louis Dreyfuss, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John Kamen, Olga Kurylenko, and Sebastian Stan are all set to reprise their respected MCU roles.
