It is sad news to report that Maria Salud Ramirez Caballero has passed away.
For those who may not be familiar with the name, you will most certainly recognize her face. She was the inspiration for Mama Coco in Disney and Pixar’s Coco.
While Disney has never outright confirmed that Caballero was the inspiration for the character, her family did come forward shortly after the film’s release with claims that employees from Pixar visited their area, took numerous photos of Cabaellero, and even lived in the area for a while.
Her death was confirmed early Monday by the Secretary of Tourism for the Mexican stat of Michoacán.
The muse died in Santa Fe de la Laguna, the same town she had been born in over a century ago.
Caballero was 109!
Because she has been immortalized in the Academy Award winning film, Caballero will forever be remembered.
TMZ was the first to report this news.
