A few weeks ago Marvel Studios pushed back several projects including it’s highly anticipated Deadpool sequel as well as its Fantastic Four reboot. While Deadpool may have been assigned the Fantastic Four’s former release date, that might actually not be the film’s only connection to the characters. In fact, a new rumor suggests that the merc with a mouth is going to have a bit more company than just Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in his upcoming film.
According to industry insider Daniel RPK, there are currently plans for the film to follow Wade Wilson a.k.a Deadpool as he revisits Fox’s old superhero franchises and worlds. For anyone wondering how Jackman would fit into the film, this kind of makes sense. However, RPK specifically mentioned that the character would find himself in the same universe as the Marvel’s iteration of the Fantastic Four from 2005.
While it’s not entirely clear if he would cross paths with the characters, there would be no way of the audience knowing that he entered that universe unless he did cross paths with them.
As always, because this has not been confirmed by any major trade or Marvel Studios – although it sounds so cool that they probably would keep it a secret – we urge you to take it with a grain of salt.
It’s worth pointing out that this rumor aligns with the multiversal aspect the film seems to be going for, especially after the rumor of Owen Wilson Mobius playing some kind of role in the film too.
Currently, it’s unclear if the film will follow the continuity – or at least have the main character remember the continuity – from the first two films, or if this will be a soft reboot of sorts. Could the upcoming Multiverse arc be used as a way to shoehorn him in? Or was he always there? With a meta character like Deadpool, the possibilities are endless.
Deadpool 3 is set to be directed by Shawn Levy (Free Guy, The Adam Project). Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick return to the franchise to write. Kevin Feige will of course produce. The film will be released in theaters on November 8th, 2024.
