It is with a heavy heart that we report that original Power Rangers star Jason David Frank has died.
According to TMZ, sources with direct knowledge say that his death was the result of suicide.
His rep, Justine Hunt, confirmed the news early this morning.
Frank was best known for his role as Tommy Oliver in the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series. Despite being brought on to appear in 14 episodes, his role was expanded after becoming popular with fans. He started out as the villainous Green Ranger in Season 1, but later became the team’s leader and White Ranger after realizing the error of his ways.
Now, although the original series was released under Fox in the 1990s, we at The DisInsider are still opting to cover his death because long after his original appearance he reprised his role in Power Rangers: Wild Force and Power Rangers: Dino Thunder, both of which were produced while the franchise was owned by Disney.
In Dino Thunder, Frank got the rare chance to change his Ranger’s color a third time. In the series he went from being the mentor to a new set of rangers to being chosen to harness the power of the Black Dino Ranger.
JDF, as he was often called, was 49.
