Disney is quickly putting the final touches on its cast for their live-action adaptation of Mulan. According to The Hollywood Reporter, New Zealand actor Yoson An, who is of Chinese descent, has been cast in a leading role in the film.

The character is described as a confident and ambitious recruit who joins Commander Tung’s unit, becomes Mulan’s biggest ally, and eventually turns into her love interest. However the name of the charachter has NOT been revealed yet.

The film stars Chinese actress Liu Yifei, also known as Crystal Liu as the title character of Mulan and recently announced martial arts superstar Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, a mentor and teacher to Mulan. Jet Li will play the Emperor of China, Gong Li as the villain, Utkarsh Ambudkar and Ron Yuan have also officially signed on.

The film will be directed by Niki Caro, Which will begin production this August in China, New Zealand, and Australia.

Disney’s live-action remakes have grossed over $4.5 billion at the worldwide box so far, and will look to continue that success with  Mulan, and remakes of Dumbo, Aladdin, The Lion King, Sword In The Stone, Lady In The Tramp, Peter Pan, And The Little Mermaid all in active production and/or development.

Disney’s Mulan will hit theaters on March 27, 2020.
