Emilio Estevez Reportedly Set To Return As Coach Gordon Bombay In ‘The Mighty Ducks’ Disney+ Series

The Disney+ series The Mighty Ducks is getting ready to gear up for production, and as the series was previously regarded as a reboot, that may not be the case after all.

According to The Illuminerdi, they have learned that Emilio Estevez has signed on to return to his iconic role as Coach Gordon Bombay. Estevez will lead the ten-episode, half-hour series. At this time it’s unknown if any other stars from the original film will make an appearance on the series, but with Estevez appearing, we wouldn’t rule it out.

Estevez starred in Both The Mighty Ducks and its sequel D2: The Mighty Ducks as the player turned coach Gordon Bombay as he led a group of ragtag friends to become hockey champions, he appeared in the franchises third outing, D3: The Mighty Ducks, but due to scheduling conflicts his role was reduced to a cameo.

Jame Griffiths (Cuban Fury) will direct the entire series. Griffiths is no stranger to the Walt Disney Company as he has directed episodes of Stumptown, Black•ish, A Million Little Things, Galavant, and The Mayor for ABC, where he has an overall deal. Original trilogy screenwriter Steven Brill and original producer Jordan Kerner are on board. Josh Goldsmith, Cathy Yuspa, George Heller and Brad Petrigala will all executive produce the series with Brill.

Production on the series is set to kick off on February 10, 2019, in Vancouver, Canada.
