Ernie Hudson will be stepping into the role of Combat Carl, originally voiced by the late Carl Weathers, in Pixar’s Toy Story 5.

Weathers voiced Combat Carl and Combat Carl Jr. in Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story of Terror! and Toy Story 4. Weathers sadly passed last year due to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

As for Hudson, is best known for his role as Winston Zeddemore in the Ghostbusters films. For Disney, he portrayed Solomon in the 1992 Hollywood Pictures film, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, CIA Agent Gustav Anders in the 1997 live-action comedy film, Mr. Magoo, and voiced Pedro in the direct-to-DVD film sequels, Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2 and Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3: Viva la Fiesta. He also played Poseidon in Once Upon a Time and voiced Robbie Robertson in Spider-Man. He also played Buddy in Puppy Dog Pals.

Plot details are still scarce about the film but we do know that Andrew Stanton (WALL-E) is on board to direct it.

Produced on a total budget of $720 million, the Toy Story films have grossed more than $3.3 billion worldwide, becoming the 20th highest-grossing film franchise worldwide and the third highest-grossing animated franchise. Each film of the main series set box office records, with the third and fourth included in the top 50 all-time worldwide films.

Toy Story 5 is set to hit theaters on June 19, 2026.
