Post Avengers: Endgame, Marvel’s missed the mark quite a bit. But according to one of the franchise’s biggest stars, they may have just missed their biggest mark yet.
In a recent appearance on the High Performance podcast, Academy Award-nominated actor Jeremy Renner spoke briefly about whether fans should expect him to appear as Hawkeye again in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. SPOILER: His answer will disappoint you.
When asked about his return in a potential second season of Hawkeye, Renner confirmed that a second season was in the works and that he had been contacted to star. However, he also said that talks broke down almost immediately when it came down to discuss his salary.
“They asked me to do Season 2, and they offered me half the money. I’m like, ‘Well, it’s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount,’” Renner said.
Renner then sarcastically suggested that the proposed lower salary was a result of his near-fatal 2023 snowmobile accident.
“I’m like, ‘I’m sorry? Why? Did you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I got ran over? Maybe that’s why you want to pay me half of what I made on the first season,” he added. “I told them to go fly a kite.”
Renner didn’t rule out a return to the character in the future. But it goes without saying that despite Hawkeye not being able to fly, Renner’s future in the MCU is up-in-the-air.
Marvel has yet to comment on Renner’s statement.
