It could be the end of an era.
Jimmy Kimmel’s popular late-night talk show has been pulled by ABC indefinitely. The Disney-owned network made the announcement Wednesday eening after broadcast company Nexstar Media said it intended to pull the program itself in response to comments Kimmel made about the killing of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk.
The company said it “strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.”
The comments the company is referring to were made during Monday night’s show. In his opening monologue, Kimmel said the “MAGA gang” was trying to benefit from Kirk’s death.
Disney’s decision comes months after CBS pulled Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show” for comments made about President Trump. But it’s just the latest example of both networks bending to the knee after also settling two separate lawsuits with Trump (even though many legal experts believed they would not have held up in a courtroom).
FCC Chairman Brendan Carr has publicly lauded Nexstar’s decision. However Carr’s comments and threats directly conflict the very free speech many conservatives and democrats say Kirk stood for.
And since the show’s suspension, many public figures and celebrities have taken to social media to respond:
