Disney+ is lining up a return for one of its most successful series.

The streaming platform has started pre-production work for a new fifth Zombies film. This comes with series director Paul Hoen returning for the project. Filming is expected to begin in April

Producers Jane Fleming and Mark Ordesky are also returning to the project, bringing their genre experience to a franchise that has steadily grown in scope since the first Zombies debuted on Disney Channel in 2018. Their addition hints at Disney’s interest in expanding the mythology rather than simply repeating the familiar beats of the earlier films.

As is typical for the franchise, Disney is keeping plot specifics close. No cast is confirmed, though insiders say the next chapter will continue to build out Seabrook’s ever-evolving population of supernatural newcomers, a hallmark of the series since werewolves and aliens were introduced in later installments. Each sequel has performed strongly on the platform, remaining a top draw for its tween and family audiences.

Hoen’s return maintains the creative continuity Disney has leaned on since the beginning. His visual style and staging of the musical sequences have been central to the franchise’s identity, helping the series transition smoothly from Disney Channel original movies to Disney+ exclusives.

A release date is still a ways off, but Disney is aiming for late 2026 or early 2027 depending on production logistics and post-production needs. Disney has a pretty quick turnaround time when it comes to filming and releasing the Zombies films.

The Zombies films remain one of Disney’s most consistently engaged-with YA-style offerings, spawning multiple soundtracks, animated shorts and a sizable online fan community. More information, including casting and story details, is expected to surface next year.
