Hold on to your hair and frying pans Tangled fans cause it looks like the casting for Rapunzel and Flynn Rider is happening.

The Hollywood Reporter has reported that their currently testing actors and actresses for the upcoming live-action adaptation of 2010 animated film in London.

We at The DisInsider were the first to report that Scarlett Johansson is no longer in talks to play the villain Mother Gothel as she’s getting to ready to film The Exorcist and The Batman Part II and it’s now been confirmed by the outlet.

Currently in the running for the film’s titular role are actresses Sarah Catherine Hook (The White Lotus), Freya Skye (Disney’s Zombies 4), Teagan Croft (DC’s Titans), and Olivia-Mai Barrett (Apple TV’s Invasion). All have been tested recently.

You may recall in last week’s DisInsider Mailbag, we also first reported that Freya Skye is one of the frontrunners testing for Rapunzel.

This Summer I Turned Pretty star Lola Tung was also in talks for Rapunzel at some point but it seems that Disney may have changed its mind since she did not test for the role.

Actors testing for the dashing thief, Flynn Rider, are Disney’s Zombies franchise lead Milo Manheim, Charlie Gillespie (Splitsville, Netflix’s Julie and the Phantoms) and newcomer Gilli Jones.

According to sources, we should expect the final decision for the casting of Rapunzel and Flynn sooner than later.

With Johansson out of the role of Mother Gothel, the casting for the villainous witch is open.

Better Man and The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey is directing the Tangled remake.

Disney’s live-action Tangled is expecting to shoot in early June 2026 in the United Kingdom but could be delayed depending on the casting for the feature film.
