While speaking at this weekend’s D23 Expo, Pixar executive John Lasseter revealed that the long awaited sequel will pick up just seconds after left one ended.
“It starts right as the first one finishes, so it just carries on,” Lasseter said during an interview at D23 Expo, quipping that only “a minute” will have passed. He added, “It starts with the Underminer and a big old set piece. You know that at the end of the first movie when he comes up and you see the family dressed as superheroes, well that’s where start this movie.”
If you don’t recall, the first films ends on a high note with Dash finally being allowed to run track and the entire family celebrating his ability to control his speed enough to earn a medal but not completely smoke the competition and revealing his powers to the entire school. On their way out of the venue, the villainous Underminer emerges from the ground, declaring his intentions to take over the city. the scene then pans back to the Incredibles clan putting their masks on (INCLUDING JACK JACK) and the credits begin to roll.
This news comes to the relief of fans who have spend the last decade and a half wondering what happened during this particular altercation and if the family would be a confirmed crime-fighting unit.
Fans have even made posters speculating Underminer’s involvement in the sequel!
Lasseter then went on to briefly describe the film’s tone: “One of the unique things about the Incredibles is it’s really a story of a family set in the world of superheroes. This one carries on that theme,” he said. “It’s awesome, the idea we came up with — simple as that. … We love to really look at our own lives and look at what’s going on, and find themes that we know will resonate with the audience.”
The Incredibles 2 Releases Jun. 15th, 2018.
