After searching for over a year, looking at over 1,000 actresses; who could speak Mandarin and English as well as have martial arts experience. Disney Studios has finally found their Mulan.
Chinese actress Liu Yifei, also known as Crystal Liu, will play the role, Yifei who is best known for her starring role in the Forbidden Kingdom alongside Jackie Chan and Jet Li, she is nicknamed “Fairy Sister” in China, is one of her native country’s most popular actresses.
The studio is currently looking actors for the villain role of Shan-Yu and the film is expected to bring Mushu back as well.
Directed by Niki Caro (The Zookeeper’s Wife), Mulan is scheduled to begin production in late January 2018 in China, New Zealand and Australia with a targeted released date of 2019.
