Disney Films Hitting Theaters In 2018!

2017 is almost over and it was a fantastic year for the Disney Company. The studio made over $6 billions at the worldwide box office thanks to films like Beauty And The Beast, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Coco, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Now we go in to 2018, and the studio has another strong lineup of movies that are expected to rule the box office and possibly even exceed 2017’s box office numbers.

So let’s take a quick look at what the Disney Company has to offer us in 2018.

Black Panther

Black Panther was introduced in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War to the delight of fans, now he gets his own movie. Under the direction of Ryan Coogler (Creed) we travel to the fictional African nation of Wakanda.  After the events of Captain America: Civil War, King T’Challa returns home to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as his country’s new leader. However, T’Challa soon finds that he is challenged for the throne from factions within his own country. When two foes conspire to destroy Wakanda, the hero known as Black Panther must team up with C.I.A. agent Everett K. Ross and members of the Dora Milaje, Wakanadan special forces, to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war. With a stacked cast that includes Michael B. Jordan, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyongo, Forest Whitaker, Angela Basset, amongst others this film is going to be a fantastic prelude to Avengers: Infinity War. Black Panther hits theaters on February 16, 2018.

A Wrinkle In Time

Disney hands the directing reigns to this upcoming blockbuster to one of the best directors working today Ava DuVernay (Selma). If you haven’t seen this trailer yet, please take a moment and press play (click above). If the imagery isn’t enough to spark a sense of excitement for A Wrinkle In Time then I don’t know what will. This sci-fi adventure film based on the 1962 novel of the same name by Madeleine L’Engle will bring back the wonder of childhood. After the disappearance of her scientist father, three peculiar beings send Meg, her brother, and her friend to space in order to find him. The film stars Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Peña, Storm Reid, Zach Galifianakis, and Chris Pine. A Wrinkle In Time hits theaters on March 9, 2018.

Dolphins

If there is one thing Disney is always good at doing it’s creating a beautiful documentary and in 2018 we get to visit some of the smartest creatures Dolphins. The film follows Echo a youngster who can’t quite decide if it’s time to grow up and take on new responsibilities-or give in to her silly side and just have fun. Dolphin society is tricky, and the coral reef that Echo and his family call home depends on all of its inhabitants to keep it healthy. But Echo has a tough time resisting the many adventures the ocean has to offer. The film will announce a celebrity narrator in the coming weeks. Dolphins hits theaters on April 20, 2018.

Avengers: Infinity War

After 10 years and 18 films, the Avengers film we’ve all been waiting for is finally here, and ranks as the #1 most anticipated film of 2018. ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ is what the Marvel Cinematic Universe has lead up to, as this film marks the beginning of the end for our current batch of heroes. Whether you like it or hate it, you can’t deny the success and impact the MCU has had on the industry. ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ sees all of our favorite heroes unite to fight Thanos, a character that we’ve seen since the first ‘Avengers’. Solo: A Star Wars Story

This film has had its fair share of unwanted drama with original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller being let go for “creative differences” And reports of star needing an acting coach on set (Which was not true). Disney/Lucasfilm decided to hand the directing duties over to acclaimed director Ron Howard (Apollo 13, Willow). The studio was apparently so happy with how Howard’s direction they let him reshoot over 60% of the film, Howard has done a great job of teasing the film on social media. The saga continues with Han Solo and Chewbacca’s adventures before joining the Rebellion, including their early encounters with Lando Calrissian. The film stars Alden Ehrenreich as Solo, alongside Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Joonas Suotamo, and Paul Bettany.
