Carrie Fisher Confirmed for Episode 9

Straight from Lucasfilm and Disney themselves, the late Carrie Fisher is confirmed to play the role of Leia Organa once more. Fisher passed away in late 2016, and has played the role of Leia Organa since 1977 (Star Wars: A New Hope). The last time Fisher played the role was in 2017’s The Last Jedi, a year after her passing. For the longest time fans have been concerned on how Disney and Lucasfilm will continue with her character’s story arc, into the next film. Today, Director J.J Abrams has confirmed on how Fisher will be in the film, by using unreleased footage from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. J.J Abrams had this to say.

“We desperately loved Carrie Fisher, finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”

It seems a great deal of thought and respect was given into how exactly Carrie Fisher will continue on in the Star Wars franchise. Truly, this is a spectacular decision made by the Director and the creative team behind the film; as well as Disney and Lucasfilm, and it does not go unappreciated from the fans.

Star Wars: Episode 9 is set to hit theaters December 20th, 2019.
