A little over a month ago we reported that Disney was looking at people of color for various roles in their live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. Some names we heard floating around included Zendaya and Keke Palmer. Now thanks to a new report from That Hashtag Show, they have backed up our report.
According to the outlet, Disney has indeed offered the role of Ariel to singer/actress Zendaya. Now at this point it is deemed a rumored as both the studio and reps for Zendaya have declined to comment.
Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda will team up to compose the music for the film, as well as add new songs to the film.
Mary Poppins Returns director Rob Marshall is set to helm the film, from a script by Jane Goldman (X-Men: Days Of Future Past).
Production on The Little Mermaid is expected to take place in Puerto Rico and Cape Town Africa. As of right now there is no release date for the film.
I really hope that Zendaya doesn;’t get cast as Ariel in the upcoming live action remake of The Little Mermaid.
I think Katherine Langford would be a great choice for Ariel
