It’s been ten days since the release of Avengers: Endgame, and honestly, we’re still shaken by it. Already beating Titanic as the second highest grossing film of all time, the culmination of twenty-one Marvel Cinematic Universe films featured some amazing, incredible moments that we’ll probably see in a movie this year as well as in the entire history of the MCU thus far. While the entire film itself was excellent, these ten moments were the ones that stood out the most – in my opinion.

#10. Thor Kills Thanos

As soon as Endgame begins, it wastes no time getting to the action. After Captain Marvel rescues Tony and Nebula from space, she and the surviving Avengers (sans Tony and Clint) head out into space to hunt down Thanos thanks to Nebula’s details of his “retirement plan” (said by Rhodey). When they arrive on the garden planet, Captain Marvel quickly subdues Thanos, allowing Thor to swoop in and cut off his gauntlet wearing hand. To the Avengers horror, however, Thanos reveals he destroyed the Infinity Stones so as not to give in to temptation after “correcting” the universe. With those words, Thor finally snaps, swiftly and unexpectedly chopping off the Mad Titan’s head.

#9. All the avengers unite at tony’s funeral

Right now, you guys may be asking how could the words “Tony’s funeral” be featured in a top moments list? Let me explain. Yes, Tony’s death was more devastating than any of us could have imagined. Yes, it brings tears to our eyes whenever we think about it, but the funeral did give the audience one of the most beautiful scenes in the MCU: seeing almost every MCU character we’ve met so far gathered together to say their goodbyes to the man who started it all. The camera even focused momentarily on Nick Fury himself as the scene came to an end.

#8. Captain vs. Captain

During their trip back in time to retrieve several Infinity Stones from 2012 New York, Tony, Steve, and Bruce naturally hit some snags along the way. Tony accidentally got knocked out by 2012 Hulk as he angrily emerged from a staircase inside Stark Tower, Bruce got astral projected by the Ancient One, and Cap fought his younger self. Mistaking future!Cap as Loki in disguise stealing the scepter, 2012 Cap went all truth and justice on him, resulting in an epic fight with shields clashing! Eventually future!Cap gets the upper hand by telling his past self that Bucky was still alive and uses the scepter to lull him while he’s distracted.

In another surprising conclusion twist, Steve goes back in time to return the Infinity Stones to their rightful place – as promised – and returns as an old man. Bucky, already knowing this, tells Sam to go and talk to him, where he learns that Steve stayed back in time after returning the stones to finally live a life as Tony told him to do. He then hands his shield to Sam telling him to try it on, which Sam does, and promises he’ll do his best to live up to the name. When Steve pats him on the hand, Sam sees a wedding ring on his finger, confirming to the audience he did indeed marry his best girl, Peggy. Not that Steve said that out loud though.

#6. Hail Hydra

While trying to retrieve the mind stone, Steve has to once again go through HYDRA – specifically Jasper Sitwell and Brock Rumlow aka Crossbones, who we first met in Winter Soldier. In an exact callback to the famous elevator fight scene in that movie, Cap tells Sitwell he would be running point on the scepter, making the agents very nervous. After Sitwell said he didn’t understand, Cap assured him he had high clearance, leaning over to whisper “Hail Hydra” in his ear. He then walked out of the elevator with the scepter in tow and a smirk on his face.

#5. Every scene with tony and morgan stark

Since the ending of Spider-Man: Homecoming, we were so giddy that Tony and Pepper were one step closer to getting married. Heading into Endgame, we wanted nothing more than for Tony to retire and finally marry his long time love, and thankfully we got to see that and more. While the wedding was not shown in Endgame, Scott confirmed that Pepper was his wife when he, Natasha, and Steve paid him a visit. The other part of that sentence was that Tony had a daughter – yes, you guys read that right – named Morgan, who was so freaking adorable! In real life, Mr. Downey does have a daughter, which translates on-screen in how caring and loving he acted with the child actress playing his daughter. In fact, the “I love you 3,000” line actually came from Robert’s own children. BRB, crying.

#4. Tony and scott comment on steve’s butt

I had to do it. The ladies (including myself) have been drooling over Chris Evans since The First Avenger, and it seems The Russos specifically catered to us in the moment where Tony comments on Steve’s booty. Either that or they subtly confirmed Tony and Steve were totally boyfriends. While hiding from the 2012 versions of The Avengers, Tony makes sure to take note (out loud) that Steve’s old uniform “did nothing for his ass,” prompting Steve to reply, “No one asked you to look.” Enter Scott, who makes the hilarious retort, “I think you look great, Cap. As far as I’m concerned, that’s AMERICA’s ass!” *insert peach emoji here*

#3. “I… am… iron man”

© Marvel Studios

It was those words that ended the first Iron Man movie in 2008 and created the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it today, so it’s only tragically fitting that they be the last words Tony Stark says before his death. At the end of the epic final battle, it looks like Thanos gained the upper hand, once again wielding the gauntlet that Tony created. As he snaps his fingers, he is shocked to discover that nothing happened, and looks at his gloved hand to see all the stones had been removed. The camera then reveals Tony pried the stones away from him and snaps his own fingers, turning Thanos and his army to dust, but not before saying that iconic line with his last breath.

#2. The final battle

We waited a whole year to find out how the characters who were snapped by Thanos would return, and it was EPIC! As Cap prepared to face down Thanos and his entire army, his headset began cracking and the sound of Sam Wilson’s voice came in loud and clear. “Cap, it’s Sam. On your left,” he said, and with those words, a portal opened, revealing Black Panther, Shuri, and Okoye! Sam then flew out and quickly, multiple portals began opening until every one of the decimated characters was back. Cap then said the words we were dying to hear since forever – Avengers Assemble – and with that began the most incredibly breathtaking battle in the history of comic book films!

#1. Cap wields mjolnir

© Marvel Studios

As epic as the final battle was, there was one moment that had the entire theater screaming, clapping, and even on their feet: Mjolnir flying straight into Cap’s hands signaling he was finally worthy!!! Oh my gosh, the way Cap swung Mjolnir and kicked Thanos’ butt up and down with it was a sight that I’m sad to say I’ll never experience for the first time again. Not only did Cap summon lightning and smash Thanos with it, he even held Stormbreaker at one point! I think it’s pretty safe to say no other movie and no other moment will ever top this one, right? Then again, The Rise of Skywalker is heading our way nearly soon.
