BREAKING: David Benioff and D.B. Weiss Announced as the Writers of the Next ‘Star Wars’ Film

It’s official!   Bob Iger announced this morning at the 4th Annual MoffettNathanson Media & Communications Summit that the Untitled Star Wars film releasing in 2022 will be written by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who are known for producing and co-creating the popular television series, Game of Thrones.

Since Kathleen Kennedy recently confirmed that they are working on a Knights of the Old Republic project, could this be the next Star Wars story we’ll see on the big screen?  It seems likely since it was already rumored that they’d be writing a story about the Old Republic era, an era that they’re already familiar with after working on eight seasons of Game of Thrones, which is based in a medieval world.

Whether the 2024 and 2026 Untitled Star Wars films will be part of Benioff and Weiss’ series is uncertain, since Iger used the word “movie” in his statement and not “movies”.

“The conclusion we reached is that three years is the proper amount of time to, not only take a breather and reset, but to gear up for the next films released… We did a deal with David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who are famous for Game of Thrones, and the next [Star Wars] movie that we’ll release will be theirs and we’re not saying anything more about that”
