Eva Longoria to Direct Cheetos Movie ‘Flamin’ Hot’ For Fox Searchlight
In what may be the weirdest news we’ve ever written. Actress Eva Longoria is set to direct Flamin’ Hot, yes a movie based on Cheetos for Fox Searchlight.
According to Deadline, Longoria beat out a list of directors for the gig, as studio execs liked her authentic approach to the story, which is based on the life of Richard Montanez, who created the popular spicy snack.
The biopic will follow Richard Montanez, who rose from humble beginnings to achieve the American Dream: The son of a Mexican immigrant, Richard was a janitor at Frito-Lay when he came up with the idea for Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. His creation, inspired by the flavors of his community, revitalized the company and disrupted the food industry, creating a pop culture phenomenon that continues today.
The film is the latest from Fox Searchlight via Disney to find a director. Taika Waititi boarded Next Goal Wins, just a few weeks ago, and will release his upcoming Jojo Rabbit later this year. A trailer was recently released for Lucy In The Sky, which hits theaters next month.
There is currently no release date for Flamin’Hot.
What do you think about this news? We are certainly excited for Eva Longoria to get this shot at biopic, getting a Latina to the story of a Mexican immigrant is the right direction to go, and who knows maybe this could be the next big biopic… we’ll see.
