New Zealand writer and director Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, What We Do in the Shadows) – famous amongst Marvel fans for playing Korg – is bringing his unique style of humor and pathos to his latest film, Jojo Rabbit, a black comedy-drama based on the book Caging Skies by Christine Leunens.
The film is being produced by Fox Searchlight Pictures, which of course is now a subsidiary of Disney following the recent acquisition.
According to Fox, Jojo Rabbit is a World War 2 satire that follows a lonely German boy (Roman Griffin Davis) whose world view is turned upside down when he discovers his single mother (Scarlett Johansson) is hiding a young girl (Thomasin McKenzie) in their attic. Aided only by his idiotic imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler (Taika Waititi), Jojo must confront his native patriotism.
The “anti-hate satire” also stars Rebel Wilson, Stephen Merchant, Alfie Allen and Sam Rockwell.
The film is set to debut at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2019 and arrive in theatres October 18, 2019.
