The wait is over, Disney has found their Prince Eric. As Jonah Hauer-King (A Dog’s Way Home) has nabbed the coveted role opposite Halle Bailey who will play Ariel in Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid.
Hauer-King’s name surfaced a couple months back and was brought back for a second test on Saturday, and Disney seemed he was the best fit for their project at the end of the day.
Alan Menken (Aladdin) and Lin-Manuel Miranda (Moana) will be remastering the music from the original film, while also adding brand new songs, which would also include one a new solo for Prince Eric… that’s what we hear that is.
Also on board Disney’s upcoming remake is Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales star Javier Bardem is in talks to play Ariel’s father King Triton Melissa McCarthy, Jacob Tremblay, and Awkwafina who are attached to play Ursula, Ariel’s best friend Flounder, and Scuttle. Daveed Diggs will voice Sebastian.
The Little Mermaid will be directed by Rob Marshall, and production is expected to begin in April in the Caribbean.
