New ‘The Simpson’s’ Short To Play In Front of Pixar’s ‘Onward’

Pixar has had a long tradition of putting amazing short films in front of their features, granted some there has been times when Pixar didn’t have a short ready, but that’s a rare occasion.

Well, for those wondering if we will be getting a short in front of Onward, wonder no more, as the now owned by Disney series The Simpsons will be debuting a short titled Playdate with Destiny, centered on the youngest member of the family, Maggie.

You may remember in 2017 Pixar’s Coco had a short film that was made by Disney Animation, however, this becomes the first not created by in-house animators.

When teenage elf brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot (voices of Marvel alums Tom Holland and Chris Pratt) get an unexpected opportunity to spend one more day with their late dad, they embark on an extraordinary quest aboard Barley’s epic van Guinevere. Like any good quest, their journey is filled with magic spells, cryptic maps, impossible obstacles, and unimaginable discoveries. But when the boys’ fearless mom Laurel (voice of Julia Louis-Dreyfus) realizes her sons are missing, she teams up with a part-lion, part-bat, part-scorpion, former warrior – aka The Manticore (voice of Octavia Spencer) – and heads off to find them. Perilous curses aside, this one magical day could mean more than any of them ever dreamed.

Directed by Dan Scanlon (Monsters University) and produced by Kori Rae, Disney and Pixar’s Onward opens in theaters on March 6, 2020. The film is based on Scanlon’s personal experiences with his brother.
