‘Hamilton’ Movie to Premiere on Disney+ This July

Back in February, the Walt Disney Company announced that they had won distribution rights to the original stage performance Tony-winning stage musical, Hamilton, for $75 million. The hit musical was filmed featuring the original cast and was dated for release in theaters on October 15, 2021.

Today, the company made the announcement that the film will be fast-tracked and will premiere July 3, 2020 on Disney+. Star Lin-Manuel Miranda shared the announcement on social media, along with Disney.

Filmed at The Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway in June of 2016, Hamilton features Tony Award® winners Lin-Manuel Miranda as Alexander Hamilton; Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson; Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler; Leslie Odom, Jr. as Aaron Burr; Tony Award nominees Christopher Jackson as George Washington; Jonathan Groff as King George; Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton; and Jasmine Cephas Jones as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds; Okieriete Onaodowan as Hercules Mulligan/James Madison; and Anthony Ramos as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton.

Producers for Hamilton, the film of the original Broadway production, include Miranda, Jeffery Seller, and Thomas Kail, who also directs.
