According to Deadline, a brand new Disney Channel Original Movie is in the works that will both highlight and celebrate Indian culture in a way that the network has never done before. Diary of a Future President‘s Avantika Vandanapu has reportedly been tapped to star and Manjari Makijany is set to helm the project, which will be called Spin.
The project was originally being developed for Disney+.

The film will center around a 15-year-old named Rhea Kumar (Vandanapu) who, after her mother’s death, has her love for music and her culture rekindled when she becomes close to an aspiring DJ. Her Indian heritage will especially come into play as she learns to incorporate it into her love for music.
In a statement the Disney Channel’s Vice President of Original Movies said, “We look forward to watching Avantika lead this vibrant story of a teen discovering unexpected aspirations to create, remix, perform and ultimately define her art.” She also said that the company is excited to see what Makijany can do with the “special story.”

Fans can continue to see Vandanapu on Diary of a Future President on Disney+ when it returns for its highly anticipated second season. Makijany, on the other hand, is set to have her debut feature film – a sports drama titled Desert Dolphin – hit Netflix next year.
Zanne Devine, who just finished working on another DCOM, Secret Society of Second Born Royals, will executively produce the film.
