Disney Unveils ‘Storyliving’: Community Housing For Die-hard Fans Of The Brand
The Disney experience just got an upgrade.
Today, the Walt Disney Company unveiled Storyliving, community-based and Disney-branded housing for die-hard fans.
Unlike vacation resorts, the units being built as a part of Storyliving will be permanent residences for people to live in. According to USA Today, the first official community, known as Cotino, will be located in Rancho Mirage, California, and will consist of 1,900 units.
“You can be part of Disney all the time,” Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Josh D’Amaro says. With “incredible demand for all things Disney,” as he also says, fans are actively looking for ways to “keep Disney as part of their lives.”
As you can probably tell by the name, Storyliving, storytelling will is the core concept. Each community will aim to mix the culture, history, and other aspects from its most popular stories. D’Amaro makes it clear that he wants the residents to have active roles in those stories.
While pricing, development plans, and other details have not yet been announced, the company has clarified that the community will consist of several different live-in units including condominiums, single-family homes, and estates. Even though people of all ages will be allowed and encouraged to buy these properties, the target demographic of the project is baby boomers aged 55 and older.
Now, despite being mostly comprised of private residences, there will be a public section too. Hotels, dining, shopping, and entertainment districts will be available to guests who want to book a temporary stay.
Although the community will bear the Disney name, the company will not officially own it or develop it. Instead, it will work several other third-party contractors to bring the project to fruition.

It’s unclear when the company will complete the project, but expect more details to be announced as it continues to move forward.
