Ariana DeBose Reportedly Cast as Calypso in Sony’s ‘Kraven the Hunter’
Fresh off the release of Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, which led to her performance as Anita being nominated for multiple awards, including recently winning the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Supporting Actress, Academy Award-nominated actress Ariana DeBose is set to join J.C. Chandor’s Sony/Marvel movie Kraven the Hunter as Calypso, Deadline has reported.

She will be joining Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the film’s titular character, with Fred Hechinger as Chameleon and Russell Crowe in an undisclosed role also on board. The film is being written by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Richard Wenk. Although DeBose’s casting is unconfirmed by Sony, sources close to the project say that she will indeed play Calypso.
It’s a big role for DeBose, especially after all of the success she had with her incredible performance in West Side Story. Her next on-screen appearance will be in Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle, starring an all-star cast of Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Samuel L. Jackson, Dua Lipa, and Rob Delaney. It will be released on Apple TV+ later this year.
If it all goes as planned, Kraven the Hunter will start shooting in the middle of the year, for a theatrical release on January 13, 2023.
