Thanks to the team over at The Direct, we now have an update on the animated Guardians of the Galaxy Disney+ short series I Am Groot.
Per the site, who viewed an early theatrical screening of the series, Bradley Cooper is returning to voice Rocket Raccoon. Cooper’s name reportedly appears in the credits for the series confirming the character’s return. How many episodes Cooper is in remains to be seen, but we know it is at least one. This marks the sixth project Bradley Cooper has voiced Rocket in for Marvel Studios and will appear once more in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 next year.
The site also shared a quick overview of episode one:
“In Episode 1, Rocket looks for Groot in their ship after hearing a huge explosion that the baby tree caused. After first getting mad at Groot, he takes a drawing that the baby made of the Guardians team, but then falls into the floor due to another explosion after realizing his tail hair was used to make the picture.”
Drax the Destroyer will also appear in the series. As of now, it is unknown if Dave Bautista will voice Drax in I Am Groot. Bautista was not a part of last year’s What If…? animated series as he was voiced by longtime voice actor Fred Tatasciore. Bautista later revealed that he wasn’t asked to do the voice work and would have done so, “Let’s start with I was never asked.” That said, I believe Bautista will be involved with this project.
Vin Diesel, who is the voice of Groot in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, voices Baby Groot. The writer/director is Kirsten Lepore, and the executive producers are Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, and James Gunn. I Am Groot hits Disney+ on August 10.
