Just in from Disney’s D23 live-action panel: When The Little Mermaid hits theaters next Summer, it will have not one, not two, but FOUR brand new songs in it. All 4 come courtesy of both Alan Menken, who composed the original film, and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
That’s not all. After (literal) years of speculation, thanks to the first official trailer, we now know for sure that Halle Bailey will also sport red hair, just as Ariel did in the original animated film.
Directed by Rob Marshall (Into The Woods), The Little Mermaid stars Halle Bailey as Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King (A Dog’s Way Home) as Prince Eric, Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids) as Ursula, Awkwafina (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) as Scuttle, and Daveed Diggs (Snowpiercer) as Sebastian. Also set to star is Emily Coates, Jude Akuwudike, Noma Dumezweni, Russell Balogh, and Adrian Christopher.
The film hits theaters on May 26, 2023.
