The newest movie in the Descendants franchise, Descendants: The Rise of Red, is coming to Disney+ July 12, the newest teaser confirmed.
The movie follows former Villain Kid Uma (aka VK), now headmaster of Auradon Prep, who extends an invite to the school to another VK – Red (Kylie Cantrall), the rebellious daughter of the Queen of Hearts (Rita Ora) from Wonderland. After the Queen of Hearts incites a coup against Auradon, Red must team up with Cinderella’s perfectionist daughter Chloe (Malia Baker) and travel back in time to try to undo the traumatic event that set Red’s mother down her villainous path.
In addition to Cantrall, Baker, and Ora, the film features Brandy in the role of Cinderella, Dara Reneé as Uliana, Ruby Rose Turner portraying Bridget/Young Queen of Hearts, Morgan Dudley as Ella/Young Cinderella, Joshua Colley as Young Hook, Peder Lindell as Morgie, Grace Narducci as Fay/Young Fairy Godmother, Jeremy Swift as Principal Merlin, Paolo Montalban as King Charming, and Leonardo Nam as Maddox Hatter. China Anne McClain reprises her character as Uma, the daughter of Ursula and headmaster of Auradon, with Melanie Paxson returning as Fairy Godmother.
Descendants: The Rise of Red introduces seven new original songs along with two reprises and a rendition of “So This Is Love” from Cinderella, accompanied by a soundtrack album release coinciding with the film’s premiere.
Directed by Jennifer Phang, the film is penned by Dan Frey and Russell Sommer. Suzanne Todd and Gary Marsh take on executive producer roles, with Phang and Mahita P. Simpson as co-executive producers, and Wendy S. Williams serving as producer. Ashley Wallen handles choreography, Torin Borrowdale contributes the score, and Mark Hofeling oversees production design, while Declan Quinn works as the director of photography. Katie Ennis serves as the editor, and costume design is led by Julia Caston and Emilio Sosa.
