Disney is looking for ways to expand subscriber usage to Disney+. Now, the streamer may look to go the route of PlutoTV. While that may sound a bit strange it will all make sense.
According to The Information, Disney is planning to create a series of channels within Disney+. They will function the same as old-school TV channels with different channels for different genres like Marvel & Star Wars. The idea also expands with the addition of Hulu, which would offer more to the channel programming. A move like this could also make way for Disney’s other content such as ABC, FX, Freeform, ESPN, Disney XD, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, and even Radio Disney to debut on the service as channels.
Just last month, Disney+ debuted an updated teal logo design, which was in preparation for the service’s merger with Hulu. The new animated logo for the streamer to serve as its splash screen and to open original series and films was also revealed that same month, with a short orchestral theme composed by Ludwig Göransson. The interface was also updated to match the new teal color scheme, which was dubbed “Aurora” as a homage to Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty.
Disney+ has nearly 150 million subscribers, which is impressive considering that the company had initially set a goal of 60 to 90 million users by 2024 back before the streamers launch. By comparison, it took SVOD market leader Netflix roughly a decade to reach the 100-million-mark, despite having navigated a much less competitive market then.
