Disney had its upfront event yesterday, and boy were fans delighted with some Agatha All Along, Daredevil Born Again, and Only Murders in the Building news. Well, hopefully I can delight you with some juicy Disney rumors from this week’s mailbag that include Austin Butler and Zac Efron.
Do you think Mufasa will make enough for Disney to carry out their potential planned lion king franchise?
It is way to early to tell at this at this time. That said, the film does have a really nice December release date that has proved successful for franchises like Avatar and Star Wars. On the flip side, you have those who are getting tired of the remakes, while Mufasa is a sequel/prequel, that didn’t bode well for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Alice Through The Looking Glass.
Which of Disney’s studios do you think will drop the biggest surprises at D23?
The easiest answer is Marvel Studios. The answer I know it will be is Disney’s live-action division.
Have you ever hear if Disney Animation is developing any projects with Raya or Encanto??
Disney has ideas for an Encanto project, which would be tailored for Disney+. Sadly, as for Raya, Disney has no plans to revisit that world anytime soon.
After the flops of Wish and The Marvel’s, is Snow White gonna ended up being a D+ exclusive?
No, despite a couple flops, the remakes have been financial money makers for the studio. Snow White has the chance to make a billion dollars like Aladdin, at the worst it could hit $545 million like The Little Mermaid, which ended up not losing Disney any money.
A bit of a different question for you but if you had to greenlight 5 films for Walt Disney Studios what would you do?
A Davy Crockett action/adventure film, Magic Kingdom (Disney’s Night at the Museum), a Black Hole remake, Pirates of the Caribbean spinoff, and I wouldn’t mind watching them try and crack Tomorrowland again.
What is Disney’ project with Austin Butler you told last week? Hercules?
I have heard for the last couple years that Disney has wanted to work with Butler for quite some time and while Hercules was on the table, I heard that Disney wants him from Pirates of the Caribbean. Whether or not that happens is a completely different story.
If Disney pulls a ‘Moana 2’ with the Tiana show, will the movie be 2D animated?
Correct.
Will Pixar do a sequel to Lightyear after that post credit scene?
No, not only did it bomb at the box office but Disney is also distancing itself from that movie.
Any Sister Act 3 updates?
Script is done, next step is trying to get Kathy Najimi and Maggie Smith locked in and filming should begin later this year.
Is another High School Musical movie in the works? And is another Cheetah Girls movie in the works as well?
Yes, Disney is working on a new High School Musical movie for Disney+, word on the streets is goal would be to bring back Zac Efron’s Troy.
