MP Requests the Australian Government to Meet with Disney for New Theme Park

Disney Parks can be found all over the globe with two in the United States, one in Hong Kong, another in Mainland China, and the officially-licenced resort in Japan.

Rumours of a new Disney Resort come and go every few years with Asian countries being the usual favourites due to the rapid expansion of theme park projects throughout Asia and the Middle East. We’ve heard rumours of a Disney resort coming to northern China, Dubai, India and Singapore, but how about somewhere a little further south, like Australia?

The idea of a Disney Resort in Australia is not new and almost came to fruition with DisneyWharf at Sydney Harbor. Since then, Australia has been out of sight and out of mind for Disney when it came to theme parks, but one MP hopes to fix that.

Libertarian MP David Limbrick has shared his hopes of a Disneyland Resort in Melbourne, citing three suburbs in particular: Cranbourne, Dandenong and Frankston.

Limbrick cited “unlike other parts of Melbourne, Disney would be welcomed with open arms in South East Melbourne.”

On an appearance on The Project, Limbrick noted that the Walt Disney Company were spending $60 Billion on its Disney Experiences division and has called for the Australian tourism minister to set up a meeting with Disney to tell them that “Melbourne is open for business and that we’d like them to invest.”

For a new theme park resort, this is already good for Disney as they like to work closely with local governments when building their new resorts, the ones in Hong Kong and China are even co-owned by their local governments. However, Limbrick clarified that “Disney won’t cost any taxpayers any money.”

At the time of writing Limbrick has not spoken to Disney but he hopes to drum-up support with the local communities ahead of any potential meetings.
