Life got in the way last week and there was no mailbag. This week, I am back and sharing some nice little nuggets of info on some of the projects Disney is working on including Snow White, Night at the Museum, Agatha All Along, and so much more.

Will the Lizzie McGuire reboot ever happen again?

Unfortunately, Disney+ does not have any plans to revisit Lizzie McGuire. There was a bit of tension between Hilary Duff and The Walt Disney Company, so to ease tension Duff got to lead the Hulu series How I Met Your Father.

Why is Disney doing reshoots for Snow White? Is it normal for live action movies? I don’t remember Little Mermaid or Cinderella or Beauty and the Beast having reshoots. Is it true reshoots for Snow White are linked to the fact that test screenings weren’t good?

First things first, reshoots are very common in the movie industry and a ton of big-name projects have undergone various amounts of reshoots, most recently being Deadpool & Wolverine, Captain America: Brave New World, and even 2023’s live-action The Little Mermaid remake went through reshoots. Reshoots are nothing to worry about. Now, in regard to test screenings, I heard a lot of positives about Snow White, notably Rachel Zegler’s performance. As far as I have heard it tested with the same score as 2019s Aladdin remake.

Any updates on the Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo Stepsisters spin-off movie that was announced in development?

I have heard Disney is not moving forward with that project.

Any updates on Sister Act 3? Is Tim Federle still attached to direct?

A new script was turned in recently and the studio execs are very happy with it. Additionally, Federle is still on board to direct the project. I hear they are courting Maggie Smith and Kathy Najimi to return. My guess is the project will begin production in Early 2025.

Will Disney reconsider doing a theatrical (live action or animated) Phineas and Ferb movie? Jim Carrey was rumored for Doofenshmirtz at one point.

No, Jim Carrey was never attached to a live-action Phineas and Ferb movie because there isn’t one and Disney has no plans to make one, at this time.

Did Disney think they had a big hit on their hands with Wish? How surprised were they with the poor reception and box office?

Disney always hopes their projects are hits. In the case of Wish, Disney hyped the project at 2022’s D23 Expo as their next masterpiece. Sadly, it did not correlate at the box office. The film did pretty decent numbers for Disney+ but ultimately it was a misfire and of course, the studio was surprised.

I remember you went to D23 in 2022 and you saw Snow White teaser. What sort of color palette has the movie? Colorful and warm like Aladdin/Cinderella live action or more greyish like Mary Poppins Return/Christopher Robin/Peter Pan and Wendy or dark like Maleficent?

Great question, to be honest from what I remember I totally got the sense this movie could fit into the same universe as the Maleficent films. That said, the film was far from completed but what we did see it looked great visually and we will definitely get to see more next month when it is shown off at D23 next month and I believe the new trailer/teaser will be released publicly.

Does Disney have any plans for Ice Age, Night at the Museum and Alvin and the Chipmunks?

Disney is developing a new live-action Night at the Museum project; However, I am not sure if it is a reboot or a new Ben Stiller-led sequel. As for Ice Age and Chipmunks, both are billion-dollar franchises and while nothing is being discussed as of now, I imagine Disney will revisit both at some point.

Does Disney have plans to use the Simpsons in their parks?

Unless Universal (who owns the park’s rights) signs them over to Disney, then no.

Do you think we might get a teaser of Tron in D23 this year? If not, any closer timeline on when we will get it?

Tron: Ares will be shown off next month. Sadly, I do not think it will be revealed to the public, only those in attendance. Possibly a first poster though, which Disney tends to do.

Does Lucasfilm still intend to introduce a Doctor Aphra solo series on Disney+ in the future?

Should they? yes! Will/Are they? Sadly, no.

Is that “Bluebeard” movie you scooped a couple years back (or something approximating that) still on the cards at WDAS?

Last I heard, this project was scrapped a little over a year ago. Unless, something changed recently I do not think we will be getting this movie.

Why the delay for this week’s mailbag?

Life got in the way.

Any word on an Agatha All Along trailer coming or will we have to wait until SDCC/D23?

Marvel Studios has a comic-con trailer ready to go, so we will get to see it this month!

Have you heard anything about Cruella 2 or Hocus Pocus 3?

Hocus Pocus 2 was a big success for Disney+. At this time, there is no script or talent attached for a third film but the studio is discussing it and the plan is to get one made. As for Cruella 2, I believe the project is on hold, we could get an update at D23 next month but I would not be shocked if we didn’t.

I know it’s not Disney-related but what do you think of the new Superman costume for James Gunn’s movie?

I know there is multiple suits and from I have seen they look great. I love the classic Superman look James Gunn is going for. That said, I am anxious to see how it looks on screen after post-production.

There’s been talks of a Sky High sequel for years and the director recently said he’s interested in doing it. Will it become a reality at some point?

I actually think a Sky High series is being discussed for Disney+. The Boys has been a massive success for Amazon and Disney could look at that and make Sky High a MUCH MORE kid-friendly version of that and build off the hype of non-Marvel/DCU heroes. Not to mention, the cast and crew have all said they would return.

That’s all for this week’s mailbag, stay tuned as every Thursday a new DisInsider Mailbag will drop.
