The BBC and Disney Branded Television have announced their first new Doctor Who spin-off, titled The War Between The Land And The Sea, at San Diego Comic-Con.
The series is the brainchild of Doctor Who Showrunner and Executive Producer Russell T Davies, who has co-written it with Pete McTighe (known for A Discovery of Witches, The Pact, Doctor Who).
Starring in the five-part series are Russell Tovey (Feud, American Horror Story: NYC) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Surface, Loki). The show will also see the return of UNIT characters, including Jemma Redgrave (Doctor Who, Grantchester) reprising her role as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and Alexander Devrient (Doctor Who, Ted Lasso) as Colonel Ibrahim.
The plot centers on an ancient and formidable species emerging from the ocean, leading to an international crisis. With humanity at risk, UNIT must act swiftly as a war erupts between the land and the sea.
Filming begins next month and will be directed by Dylan Holmes-Williams, director of two ‘Doctor Who’ Season One episodes – ‘73 Yards’ and ‘Dot and Bubble’.
The War Between The Land And The Sea has been commissioned by Lindsay Salt, Director of Drama for the BBC. Executive Producers for Bad Wolf are Russell T Davies, Julie Gardner, Jane Tranter, Joel Collins and Phil Collinson. Produced with the support of Welsh Government via Creative Wales.
The series is produced by Bad Wolf with BBC Studios for the BBC and Disney Branded Television, and will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK, and exclusively on Disney+ outside of the UK where available.
