Season two of Percy Jackson and the Olympians has announced a significant new addition to its cast.
Daniel Diemer has been selected to portray Tyson the cyclops, a beloved character from Rick Riordan’s series of novels. This casting news was revealed on Thursday during a panel for the show at Comic-Con.
Production for season two of Percy Jackson, which is based on the second book in the series, “The Sea of Monsters,” is scheduled to begin next week in Vancouver. Diemer will be a series regular, joining Walker Scobell (Percy), Leah Sava Jeffries (Annabeth), and Aryan Simhadri (Grover).
Tyson is a young cyclops who has had to fend for himself on the streets, struggling to navigate the human world. As a son of Poseidon (played by Toby Stephens), he is also Percy’s half-brother.
In the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the young demigod returns to Camp Half-Blood a year after the first season’s events. According to the show’s logline, Percy’s world is turned upside down: his friendship with Annabeth is evolving, he discovers he has a cyclops brother, Grover is missing, and the camp is under attack by Kronos’ forces. To restore order, Percy embarks on a perilous journey into the Sea of Monsters, where a hidden destiny awaits the son of Poseidon.
The series was created by Rick Riordan and Jonathan E. Steinberg and is produced by 20th Television. Executive producers include Riordan, Steinberg, Dan Shotz, Rebecca Riordan, Craig Silverstein, Bert Salke, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg, James Bobin, Jim Rowe, Albert Kim, Jason Ensler, and Sarah Watson.
