Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con brought one of the biggest surprises from Marvel Studios in years.
That was, of course, the triumphant return of Robert Downey Jr. – but now as the franchise’s inaugural hero Iron Man. Instead, it was revealed that the Academy Award-winning actor would be playing a brand new role altogether – and not a random one.
Robert Downey Jr. will be starring as the villain Victor Von Doom in the next Avengers film, aptly titled Avengers: Doomsday.
When the news was first made public Saturday evening, understandably, the audience went crazy. And Marvel Studios just so happened to catch its reaction firsthand.

Now, while the news is exciting, little else about the film was revealed at the convention. The film is expected to hit theaters some time in 2026, so we expect more details to be revealed soon – potentially even at D23!
