10 Things We Expect To See At D23

We are just days away from the biggest Disney fan event in the world, the D23 Expo. The three day event, which takes place August 9-11, will be the place to be for announcements, news, never-before-seen footage, and first looks from all aspects of The Walt Disney Company.

With so much news expected, we have decided to narrow down the 10 projects we expect updates on.

1. Agatha All Along

This one is a no-brainer. Mostly because it premieres next month on Disney+.

With Deadpool and Wolverine being Marvel Studios’ only theatrical project this year, we expect the Marvel portion of the highly anticipated Disney Entertainment Showcase Friday evening.

We wouldn’t be surprised if attendees are treated to an extended sneak peak, but it would be the best opportunity to at least release a final trailer for the show.

2. Win Or Lose

It’s been nearly three years since Disney first announced Pixar’ ‘s first-ever original series, and two years since Will Forte was announced as the star. While no official release date has been provided – and it still says “Coming Soon” on the Disney+ website – the series is actually premiering at D23.

The series revolves around a co-ed softball team at middle school named the Pickles in the week leading up to their big championship game, with each episode showing the perspective of each member in the same events, each reflected in a unique visual style.

Saturday evening, Pixar is hosting a watch party for the series where attendees will have the opportunity to watch the first two episodes of the show and participate in a Q&A with its filmmakers.

Hopefully this means that a trailer and more info about the show’s release will find its way online shortly after.

3. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

Aside from Friday’s main showcase, Marvel Animation will be hosting its own session Saturday afternoon. Per D23’s website, the presentation will feature a sneak peak at the upcoming animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

The series, which will follow Peter Parker in his early days as Spider-Man was also announced nearly three years ago – and originally titled Spider-Man: Freshman Year. It’s finally set to premiere on Disney+ this November. So it’s no surprise that it will be headlining this panel. We’re just curious if this will be where the first trailer will be unveiled.

4. Eyes of Wakanda

Another series confirmed to be featured at Marvel Animation’s presentation is the mysterious Eyes of Wakanda.

Very little is known about the show other than the fact that it was Disney’s most recent slate of projects expected to be released this year – and this synopsis unveiled late last year by the studio:

“Throughout Wakandan history, brave warriors have been tasked to travel the world retrieving dangerous vibranium artifacts. This is their story.”

Per industry insider Daniel RPK, Marvel has invested nearly $20 million on the project…

5. Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires

It was earlier this year that a fourth Zombies film was confirmed. While the film started shooting a few months ago, it’s possible that we may be getting our first official sneak peak at the expo.

Our reasoning in thinking that is because there is a photo op scheduled with the entire cast Saturday morning. Why else would everyone be at the event if they didn’t have more to share? After all, the fourth Descendants film was announced at the last D23…

Dubbed Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires, the film will reportedly follow the journey of Zed and Addison as they set out on a summer road trip following their freshman year of college. Along the way, they stumble upon the contrasting realms of Sunnyside and Shadyside, as well as new creatures.

6. Percy Jackson and the Olympians

Fresh of the heels of San Diego Comic-Con and the announcement about who will play Percy’s half-brother in the second season, Disney’s hit adaptation of Rick Riordan’s novels is scheduled to have its own presentation Saturday afternoon.

With production just beginning on the next season, we are most definitely going to get some more exciting updates about the show’s future.

In the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which is based on the second book in the series “The Sea of Monsters,” the young demigod returns to Camp Half-Blood a year after the first season’s events. According to the show’s logline, Percy’s world is turned upside down: his friendship with Annabeth is evolving, he discovers he has a cyclops brother, Grover is missing, and the camp is under attack by Kronos’ forces. To restore order, Percy embarks on a perilous journey into the Sea of Monsters, where a hidden destiny awaits the son of Poseidon.

7. Elio

Similar to Zombies 4, the filmmakers behind Pixar’s next film Elio are also slated to be at the expo.

While not confirmed, it would be surprising if this film wasn’t at least mentioned in the main showcase.

The last we heard, Turning Red‘s Domee Shi had potentially replaced Adrian Molina as director on the project. Perhaps we’ll finally get clarity in addition to an updated look at the film this weekend.

The film follows an eleven-year-old boy named Elio Solis who accidentally becomes the intergalactic Ambassador of planet Earth after being beamed up to the Communiverse by aliens for making contact. Elio must form new bonds with eccentric alien lifeforms and survive a series of formidable trials.

8. Mufasa: The Lion King

The D23 Entertainment Showcase would not be complete without mention of the company’s live-action films. That being said, we would be shocked if a new, extended look of Mufasa: The Lion King was not shown to attendees. It’s arguably the studio’s biggest film this year and the first live-action adaptation since last year’s The Little Mermaid.

Being that the studio has only released a teaser trailer for the film, the expo would be a great time to unveil a more expansive trailer with a tease at some of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s music.

9. Snow White

Snow White was supposed to be released this year. Last year’s Hollywood Strikes combined with necessary reshoots forced it to be delayed to next year. That being said, at this point there is so much footage that a trailer could have and should have been cut.

With the film scheduled to be released in just under 7 months, now would be the time for the studio to release some sort of promo. Whether it will be for attendees only, or released simultaneously online remains to be seen.

Now, just to clarify, we do not know for sure if there are plans to unveil anything related to the Snow White adaptation at D23; however, it would be surprising if the studio didn’t at least show off some stills from the film.

10. Daredevil: Born Again

Another project that has been in development for seemingly forever is Marvel’s Daredevil reboot.

Following a creative overhaul of the series, the project resumed production last year and is expected to debut on Disney+ in early 2025.

After Agatha All Along, this would be another obvious show to tease.

Because Marvel failed to mention any of its planned streaming series at San Diego Comic-Con, we’re inclined to believe that there are some big reveals lined up for D23. You can read about some of those predictions in our next article…

What do you expect to hear about at D23? Sound off below!
