After an unprecedented theatrical run, Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out 2—now the top-grossing animated movie in history—achieved even greater success with its debut on Disney+.
The film garnered 30.5 million global views on Disney+ in its first five days of streaming, becoming the platform’s most-watched movie premiere of 2024. It also became the top theatrical release premiere on Disney+ since Encanto (2021) and set records as the number one premiere ever in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) and LATAM (Latin America) regions. The excitement around Inside Out 2 also reignited interest in the original Inside Out, with over 121 million global views of the 2015 film since the teaser trailer for the sequel was released.
Set during Riley’s teenage years, Inside Out 2 explores new territory as her mind faces a sudden shake-up with the arrival of new Emotions. Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Tony Hale), and Disgust (Liza Lapira) meet Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos), and Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser), leading to a fresh emotional dynamic.
Directed by Kelsey Mann and produced by Mark Nielsen, the film was executive produced by Pete Docter, Jonas Rivera, and Dan Scanlon. Meg LeFauve and Dave Holstein co-wrote the screenplay, based on a story by Mann and LeFauve, with music composed by Andrea Datzman.
Released in theaters on June 14, Inside Out 2 continued to break records throughout the summer. It surpassed $1 billion in just 19 days—the fastest of any animated film—and remains the highest-grossing movie of 2024. The film has been a critical and audience favorite, achieving a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes™, an “A” CinemaScore, and a 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
