One of cables biggest comedies of the 2000s, Malcolm in the Middle, is making a return with new episodes.
The family comedy will return for a limited, four-episode run on Disney+ with original cast members Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek on board to reprise their roles as Malcolm and his parents Hal and Lois, respectively.
Returning to the project are Malcolm in the Middle creator Linwood Boomer, who will serve as a writer for the new episodes, and producing director Ken Kwapis, who is set to direct all four installments. The series is being produced by 20th Television and New Regency under their joint venture Regency Television (a collaboration between Fox TV Studios and Regency Enterprises) for Disney Branded Entertainment.
Bryan Cranston is an executive producer for the new episodes, collaborating with Linwood Boomer, his wife and comedy television producer Tracy Katsky through her company KatCo, and Ken Kwapis. Additional executive producers include Gail Berman, who originally developed and sold the series while serving as President of Regency TV, along with New Regency’s Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, and Natalie Lehmann. Jimmy Simons and Laura Delahaye are credited as co-executive producers.
The original show has been syndicated worldwide, and received widespread critical acclaim and proved a popular draw for Fox. It is placed on several lists of the greatest TV and sitcom series of all time. It has won a Peabody Award, seven Emmy Awards, one Grammy Award and seven Golden Globe nominations.
