Moana 2 has finally crossed $1 billion at the worldwide box office. The Disney Animation Studios sequel joins Inside Out 2 and Deadpool and Wolverine as the 3 films to gross over $1 billion for Disney in 2024.
The Aul’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson-led sequel totaled $442.8M domestic through Sunday and $567.1M from the international box office for a running total of $1.01B worldwide.
Moana 2 ranks as the second highest-grossing animated film in history in both Brazil and France. Additionally, it stands as the top-grossing release from Walt Disney Animated Studios in France, Australia, Brazil, and Mexico, along with achieving remarkable box office success in various regions including Latin America, Greece, Slovakia, South Africa, Turkey, the UAE, New Zealand, Peru, Chile, Central America, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Uruguay.
Set three years after the first film, it follows the titular character reuniting with the demigod Maui and assembling a wayfinding crew to find the lost island of Motufetu, break its curse, and reconnect the people of the ocean.
The film is directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller from a screenplay by Jared Bush and Miller. Rounding out the voice cast is Temuera Morrison, Nicole Scherzinger, Rachel House, and Alan Tudyk reprise their roles from the first film, with Hualālai Chung, Rose Matafeo, David Fane, Awhimai Fraser, Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda, and Gerald Ramsey joining the cast.
